PROJECT

Project

We are expanding projects across four key fields in cooperation with multiple departments.

① Medical Field

Focus

  • Utilizing an environment that allows us to perform clinical studies, we fully and seamlessly integrate the medical and engineering fields to implement internationally competitive cutting-edge medical devices, by determining diagnosis and treatment needs, and then developing, validating and commercializing solutions.

Key Advantages

  • We leverage the excellent environment provided by Kobe University (clinical studies), companies (device development), and non-clinical demonstration facilities located in close proximity to Port Island, which functions as an effective structure to provide feedback from clinical sites and technological development sites.

② Engineering Biology Field

Focus

  • By applying biotechnology, including genome editing technology, we target the industrial implementation of technology to promptly cultivate microorganisms and microalgae capable of producing useful substances and complex chemical compounds.

Key Advantages

  • The biochemical engineering research field at Kobe University is highly innovative and creative with peripheral technology including innovative genome editing technology capable of effective genetic modification, metabolic pathway design, and advanced measurement.
  • We are developing a structure to enable the utilization of research results obtained through collaboration between the (General Incorporated Association) Organization for Engineering Biology and the Engineering Biology Research Center, Kobe University, as well as a structure facilitating new joint research.

③ Smart Community Field

Focus

  • We are promoting the development of smart communities to prepare for the realization of a super-smart society. We promote the widespread adoption of an energy-saving air conditioning system that has yielded strong results in the Sannomiya Underground Shopping Complex Project, utilizing the platform to develop problem-solving cities for the future through a public-private-academic partnership, and expanding projects rooted in local communities.

Key Advantages

  • We are establishing a cooperative structure among faculty members and industrial specialists (specific project researchers at Kobe University).
  • Based on the (General Incorporated Association) Joint Research Consortium, we organize partner companies and expand joint research projects.
  • We established Urban Design Center Kobe (UDC078), a public-private-academic platform with citizen contributors, to secure social implementation experiment venues.

④ Maritime Energy Field

Source: New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)

Focus

  • We utilize a wide range of technological seeds at Kobe University related to off-shore wind power generation, the stabilization of power from isolated off-shore platforms, and variable electric power storage using liquefied hydrogen to achieve practical use of renewable marine energy.
  • We utilize a wide range of technological seeds at Kobe University related to off-shore wind power generation, the stabilization of power from isolated off-shore platforms, and variable electric power storage using liquefied hydrogen to achieve practical use of renewable marine energy a reality.

Key Advantages

  • We combine a wide range of comprehensive technologies (renewable marine energy, floating body systems, independent power supply systems, and hydrogen production, storage, and transport systems).
  • We promote projects in cooperation with Kobe City and the Nagasaki Marine Industry Cluster Promotion Association and aiming toward collaborating with European research institutes actively implementing projects in this field.
